Project Summary

The Challenge

Many people struggle to maintain a consistent fitness routine, especially when getting back into working out. They often feel overwhelmed by rigid workout plans, high-intensity expectations, and gym culture. The lack of approachable, beginner-friendly fitness apps makes it difficult for users to stay motivated and engaged.

The Solution

Fitted is a fitness app designed to make getting back into exercise easy and enjoyable. With a lighthearted, encouraging approach, Fitted provides personalized workout recommendations that fit users' lifestyles—whether they prefer home workouts or minimal equipment routines. The app’s intuitive interface, supportive community features, and motivational tracking system help users stay consistent without the pressure of perfection.

The Process

  1. User Research – Conducted surveys and interviews to understand pain points and motivations of users returning to fitness.

  2. Competitive Analysis – Evaluated existing fitness apps to identify gaps in user experience and accessibility.

  3. Ideation & Wireframing – Sketched initial concepts and created low-fidelity wireframes, prioritizing ease of use and motivation-driven features.

  4. UI Design & Branding – Developed an approachable, energetic visual identity using an analogous/sympathetic color scheme to keep the interface engaging yet easy on the eyes.

  5. Prototyping & Testing – Built interactive prototypes and conducted usability tests to refine navigation, workout customization, and progress tracking features.

  6. Iteration & Refinement – Integrated user feedback to optimize the design, ensuring a seamless and motivating fitness experience.

Research
User Centered Design

1. Understanding Users

I conducted interviews and surveys with people trying to get back into fitness to understand their struggles and motivations.

  • Key Findings:

    • Many feel overwhelmed by strict workout plans.

    • They want flexibility and easy-to-follow workouts.

    • Gym culture can be intimidating, so home workouts are preferred.

    • Staying consistent is a major challenge, but rigid goal-setting can feel discouraging.

2. Competitive Analysis

I analyzed popular fitness apps to see what worked and what didn’t.

  • Some were too intense or data-heavy, making them intimidating.

  • Others lacked clear guidance for beginners.

  • Few apps offered customized, pressure-free workouts for those easing back into fitness.

3. User Personas

I created user personas to represent different types of users and their needs.

  • Example: Emma, 28 – A busy professional who prefers home workouts and needs simple, motivating routines to stay consistent.

Competitive Analysis

  • To position Fitted effectively, I analyzed competing fitness apps, identifying their strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. Srong competitors included:

    • Nike Training Club

    • Peloton

    • Home Workout (by Leap Fitness Group)

  • Common Issues in these Existing Apps

    • Too rigid for beginners – Many apps assume users already have workout experience.

    • Overwhelming interfaces – Some apps clutter the experience with excessive data or options.

    • Lack of motivation features – Few apps focus on building confidence and celebrating small wins.

Audience Definition

  • Fitted is designed for individuals who want to get back into fitness but struggle with motivation, consistency, or intimidation from traditional workout programs.

User Scenarios

  1. Getting Back into Fitness - Emma, 28, Busy Professional – Emma hasn’t worked out in months and needs an easy way to restart. She uses Fitted’s short, low-impact workouts and enjoys the encouragement without pressure.

  2. Quick Workouts for a Busy Schedule Ryan, 32, Student & Part-Time Worker – With little free time, Ryan needs fast, no-equipment workouts. Fitted lets him filter by duration and energy level, making it easy to stay active.
